Latest changes to APP

Overview of the latest changes to APP.

APP is subject to review (either scheduled or triggered) in consultation with the relevant National Policing Business Area. All amendments go through a review process and further information is available from [email protected]

More detailed changes to APP content may be recorded separately by the the APP team. If you require a copy of APP as it was on a particular date (for example, for an enquiry) please email [email protected]. All requests must be approved by the relevant Policing Standards Manager.

Updated to reflect legislation changes (Sentencing Act 2020)

Civil emergencies > Disaster victim identification Inquests and inquiries

Removed the link to Jones, J. KBE (2017) from Judicial inquiries and moved it to the Overview page for disaster victim identification .

 

Investigation Acid and corrosive substances

Added link to the Home Office (2022) statutory guidance: Offensive Weapons Act 2019, part 1.

Major investigation and public protection Knife crime

Added link to Home Office (2022) Statutory guidance: Offensive Weapons Act 2019, parts 3, 4 and 5.

Updated UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) email address.

Investigation Forensics

Added a link to the NPCC Retention, Storage and Destruction of Materials and Records relating to Forensic Examination Guidance V1 under 'Other sources of information and guidance'. Also updated the broken link to the Forensic Capability Network under 'The principle of exchange'.

Updated the link to guidance on the retention, storage and destruction of materials and records related to forensic examination.

Armed policing Deployment of authorised firearms officers (AFOs)

Destruction of animals – wording change from should to must – 'Where time permits, a firearms tactical advisor must be contacted.'
