Right Care Right Person toolkit

How to implement the Right Care Right Person (RCRP) initiative in your force.

Right Care Right Person toolkit

Right Care Right Person (RCRP) aims to ensure vulnerable people get the right support from the right emergency services. It applies to calls for service about:

  • concern for the welfare of a person
  • people who have walked out of a healthcare setting
  • people who are absent without leave (AWOL) from mental health services
  • medical incidents

This toolkit supports forces in England and Wales to:

  • decide the appropriateness of a police response to these calls
  • implement RCRP successfully and consistently, in partnership with health and social care agencies

It's based on legal advice.

Smarter practice

Smarter practice is activity that has been:

  • tried in a force
  • reviewed jointly by the College of Policing, the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) and His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS)
  • written up to share with other forces
  • considered suitable for further testing
