Copyright and licensing

The copyright notice for this website and information about our licensing.

All content (excluding logos and photographs) on this website is available for reuse under the non-commercial College licence, except where otherwise stated.

If you wish to use College content that is not available under this licence or use it for purposes not permitted under this licence then – unless expressly permitted by law – you must first obtain permission (a licence) from the College of Policing.

Where we have identified any third-party copyright content, you will need to obtain permission from the copyright holders concerned.

Our licensing framework

The College's licensing framework simplifies and standardises the way we provide content to Home Office police forces, wider law enforcement organisations, other government bodies, and commercial organisations and individuals.

The framework allows us to achieve a balance between content that is freely available to the public for reuse, and content where its use is limited and controlled.

There are broadly four types of copyright licences under the framework.

  1. Our non-commercial College licence is generally for published, freely available content.
  2. Our consolidated licence is used predominantly to provide free licences to Home Office police forces as well as some wider law enforcement organisations and government bodies on a licence fee basis.
  3. Our short-form licence is used to grant permission to support ad hoc requests from individuals or organisations wishing to use specific content or extracts for a specific purpose. For example, using the College logo including extracts of content in a novel they are writing.
  4. Our commercial licence is used where College intellectual property is being commercialised.

The College also utilises the open government licence v3.0 for content that is publicly available for free use and reuse by anyone, for all purposes, both commercially and non-commercially.
