New digital policing e-learning available for forces

Digital policing foundation level 2 (DPFL2) looks at internet-dependent crimes such as hacking and digital considerations for serious and complex crime investigation.

The new learning programme consists of two e-learning modules, followed by two classroom-based practical sessions that are delivered by forces. The e-learning modules are: 

• digital considerations for investigators
• cybercrimes

DPFL2 follows on from digital policing foundation level 1 (DPFL1), which covers digital technology and online investigation opportunities.

It is aimed at Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) level 2 investigators and investigators coming through the policing education qualification framework (PEQF) route, although it is available to all officers and staff. 

In the classroom-based sessions, participants look at investigations in pairs, take part in group discussions around decisions made and actions taken, and receive feedback from subject matter advisors.

The course has been designed to be flexible and the classroom sessions can be delivered:

• in the classroom – this is the advised method of delivery in the trainer guide
• via ‘Hydra in the cloud’ – the feeds can be uploaded into the ‘Hydra in the Cloud’ system and the case study can run in a similar way to classroom delivery
• online – breakout rooms can be used for pair or group discussions

There is no licence fee for Home Office police forces to deliver this programme.
