Aims

​To provide investigating officers with the skills to conduct overt and covert internet investigations, for investigative or intelligence purposes.

Objectives

After attending this course, the participant will be able to:  

  • use investigative techniques to identify relevant sources of material from the internet
  • outline the risks of using investigative techniques
  • ensure that material gathered through overt and covert internet investigations can be used as evidence
  • understand other specialist roles in digital policing and how the III investigator can use their skills to further investigations

Methods of delivery

​The course is classroom-based with daily knowledge checks. It includes bot​h theory and practical lessons.

Before starting the course, participants must complete:

 

  • online modules
  • a workbook

The workbook is provided 12 weeks before the course starts. This must be completed and signed off by a line manager before starting the course.
