Fraud strategy announced

The Home Office has published a policy paper outlining the government's strategy to reduce fraud by 10% compared to 2019 levels by the year 2025.

The strategy focuses on preventing fraud at its source, pursuing those responsible, and protecting the public.

Key measures include:

• establishing a new national fraud squad
• prioritising fraud within the police force
• deploying the UK intelligence community to pursue fraudsters globally
• enhancing investigation and prosecution processes for fraud and digital offenses
• implementing bans on fraudulent practices such as SIM farms and mass text messaging
• improving reporting systems for fraud and cybercrimes
• taking actions against fake companies and fraudulent websites
• promoting information sharing between industry and authorities, enhancing customer protections in the technology sector
• introducing penalties for non-compliance

The strategy aims to create a comprehensive framework for combatting fraud and ensuring the safety of the public.
