Equality and diversity

The Public sector equality duty came into force in 2011. In line with its requirements, we are committed to having due regard to:

• eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
• advancing equality of opportunity between different groups
• fostering good relations between different groups

We use equality impact assessments to integrate the equality duty considerations into our business practices.

Equality impact assessments look at the effect of change on people with protected characteristics. This could include changes to an existing service, policy, strategy, function, event or project, or the introduction of a new one.

This helps to identify any potential inequalities and ensure opportunities are the same for everybody.

Gender pay gap legislation introduced in 2017 requires all employers of 250 or more employees to publish their gender pay gap data annually. The gender pay gap is the difference between the average earnings of men and women, expressed relative to men’s earnings.
