Assessment and recognition of competence

ARC is for all constables approaching pay point 4.  It is an assessment that confirms a constable is fully competent and able to be deployed into any relevant operational role within force, or if needed, to other forces in England and Wales.

During the ARC Assessment process you will be assessed against:

  • Initial Assessment Units
  • Relevant behaviours from the Policing Professional Framework (PPF)
  • Your own CPD

ARC has been developed from the Defining and Assessing Competence (DAC) pilot. Would you like to know more about DAC?

Please note that the ARC Constable Guide, ARC line manager guidance and the ARC overarching guidance are currently unavailable due to routine maintenance and will be republished as soon as possible.  Please contact the Professional Development team for more information.
