PIP level 2 – investigative supervisor/manager programme

Gain skills for supervising, managing and leading teams that conduct investigations.

Aims

This programme provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills to lead teams of investigators. 

Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • apply relevant guidance, legislation, policy and authorised professional practice (APP) to serious and complex investigations
  • engage in a supervisory role, ensuring accurate and effective investigative plans, recording and engagement with appropriate specialists during serious and complex investigations
  • develop investigative strategies, including disclosure of material (used and unused) to support investigations using appropriate specialist support, as applicable
  • carry out the supervisory role in relation to investigations, including public protection investigations, hate crimes, threats to life, high-risk offenders and sex and violent offenders

Prerequisites

Before this programme, learners should have completed either:

 

  • one of the entry routes to policing that includes PIP2 accreditation and the national investigators' exam (NIE)
  • the PIP1 and 2 standalone programme (including the NIE) and relevant qualifications for sergeants and inspectors, depending on the role

Individuals who wish to become a supervisor or manager in the investigative skills arena.
