Field Search Course



Who should attend

​Offender managers who visit offenders in their home address and examine computers with consent.


​The course will give students with limited tec​hnical knowledge the ability to interrogate a computer. The software allows for a list of predefined keyword​s to be searched for, providing a list of file locations where those keywords are found.  Apart from the keywords file locations, th​​e results will include, among other things, Images and Web Browsing history, Videos and the Most Recently Used locations.


​By the end of this course​ the students will be able to:use Field Search to ascertain the contents of the offenders machineexplain the impact o​f Field Search on the examined computerexplain the four ACPO principles interpret created, ac​cessed and modified dates.The course will use the ​​​​latest version of Field Search.

Entry requirements

​This one-day course is for staff whose role is t​​he examination of offenders' computers.Other investigators may find the course of value for triage pu​rposes, but the software was designed for sex offender management.
