Core Skills in CCTV

Overview

​​CCTV makes a significant and often critical contribution to the detection of many crimes. The extent to which it can be secured and relied on in court depends upon the evidence being gathered in a forensically sound manner by a competent individual.

Who should attend

The course is aimed at first responders and focused on the practical retrieval of CCTV evidence from venues. This is equally applicable to technicians, trawl teams and MIUs looking to strengthen their own CCTV capability.

Aims

  • ​Demonstrate how CCTV systems work
  • Explain the considerations for a retrieval officer prior to CCTV retrieval
  • Apply good practice procedures when selecting the method of retrieval
  • Show what to consider when assessing the volume of data to download
  • Produce video evidence from DCCTV systems ensuring that the integrity of evidence is maintained
  • State your responsibilities once the data has been retrieved
  • Present effectively CCTV images in court
  • State your responsibilities when gathering digital CCTV images for major investigations
