Radio Frequency Propagation Survey (RFPS) Technician


​Radio Frequency Propagation Survey (RFPS) is the practice of measuring cellular and Wi-Fi radio transmissions and matching them against call data to help determine where a mobile phone or Wi-Fi enabled device was located at a particular time. This is the initial RFPS course which explains the theory and practice of surveying.

Who should attend

​Officers and staff undertaking the role of RFPS Technician within a dedicated unit or who have responsibilities for carrying out radio frequency surveys as part of their role.


​To equip learners with the skills to plan and carry out RFPS surveys and to present findings both in an evidential report and in court.


​Learners who successfully complete the course will be able to:

1. Describe the role and responsibilities of the RFPS Technician
2. Understand and explain network, cellular and Wi-Fi data principles
3. Describe the process for planning a survey
4. Demonstrate the practical use of tools in carrying out a survey
5. Identify the steps taken to create a Radio Frequency survey report and demonstrate preparation and
    presentation of results

  • ​Knowledge of communications data
  • Knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Excel

​The course includes both theory and practical elements. The course is trainer-led and delivered to a maximum of 8 delegates.
