Next Steps

We are working with forces and higher education partners to develop qualifications for other ranks

In June 2017, the College engaged with key stakeholder groups, to get feedback on the draft high-level curricula for the qualifications that officers (sergeants – chief superintendents) would be supported to achieve upon promotion in order to be confirmed in rank. This raised a number of queries, especially around viability and implementation.

As a result of further feedback from PFEW, PSAEW and NPCC, the College has conducted a further consultation during 2018, on the original proposals for mandated professional development with qualifications attached at each rank. The results of the consultation will provide more detail on the potential content, options around delivery and funding models, and timing. Further information will be available on the College website in due course.

Here is a guide to educational levels and how qualifications can-cross boundaries.

Police staff and specialist roles

As the framework develops, additional educational qualifications will be introduced for police staff and specialist roles.
