New organisation launched to tackle fraud in the NHS

National organisation will work with forces to investigate offences

‚ÄčA new national organisation was recently launched which will work with police forces to tackle fraud and corruption in the NHS.

The NHS Counter Fraud Authority (NHSCFA) will work closely with the police and other agencies at both a national and local level to prevent and deter fraud, bribery and corruption in the NHS.

As an intelligence-led organisation, the NHSCFA aims to better understand the nature of fraud risks, investigate serious and complex fraud and reduce its impact.

Although only a small minority commit these crimes, the impact on NHS resources is significant. The NHSCFA aims to scrutinise the entire system to ensure that fraud is prevented and those who commit offences are investigated and brought to justice.

The NHSCFA also provides a service which allows people to report NHS fraud. Report can be made anonymously by calling freephone line 0800 028 4060 or reported online.
