Leadership learning roadshow - workshop 3

To ensure the achievement of strategic goals within policing and to foster good working relationships, effective communication is crucial. Leaders and managers of all levels may need to strategically influence to get people aligned to a particular initiative, or need to have conversations that are uncomfortable, difficult or even 'fierce'.

As part of a six-month leadership learning workshop roadshow – running from September 2019 until March 2020 – the College of Policing will deliver five regional 'influencing strategically and having fierce conversations' workshops to develop your communication and influencing skills to help shape relationships and outcomes.

In this workshop we will explore:

  • how to influence strategically and adapt your communication style to maximise opportunity
  • how to have fierce conversations and deal with conflict within teams

The 'influencing strategically and having fierce conversations' workshop is split into two distinct sessions: a theoretical morning session and practical afternoon session.

During the theoretical morning session an expert will talk you through key models and theories on strategic influencing and dealing with conflict. The practical afternoon session will focus on the application of this theory with a case study by the hosting force, facilitated discussions and action planning exercise.
