The process for police officers seeking promotion to the rank of sergeant or inspector is the National Police Promotion Framework (NPPF).
Following an extended trial period, it has been agreed that the Police (Promotion) Regulations 1996 will be amended to remove OSPRE Part II from the Constable to Sergeant and Sergeant to Inspector promotion process. The regulatory change to allow this to take place will be implemented early in 2015.
It is proposed that all forces will move across to NPPF on the same date but actual implementation of the process will not commence at force level until such time as that force decides to hold a promotion process. The College of Policing working with the original trial forces will provide information to forces in a series of regional workshops to be announced shortly.
A number of strategic documents have been published to assist forces in planning for implementation of NPPF and this will be supplemented by regional workshops where further detailed information will be given.
A project board has been convened to manage the delivery of NPPF across the service and will issue further information in due course.
