College outlines membership proposal

This article appears in the May 2014 edition of the College newsletter.

Today we are announcing our commitment to cover the cost of membership of the professional body for everyone working in the 43 police forces of England and Wales for the next three years.

It is also our intention, subject to negotiations, to do the same for all those working in the non-Home Office forces in England and Wales.

The decision comes as a direct result of feedback from the front line.

Our new Director of Membership and Business Development, David Buckle, starts in early June and will develop the membership offer over the next 12 months, ahead of its planned launch next year.

We will consult those in policing again in 2017/18 on what services and products our members see as most important and attractive.

College Chief executive, Chief Constable Alex Marshall, said: "As the new professional body for policing we need to ensure that we get our membership offer right. For that reason we will develop our offer to members in consultation with officers and staff. The College will continue to cover the costs of delivering products and services to those in policing while we establish a compelling long-term offer for individuals."

We will provide regular updates about membership proposals through this newsletter and through communications with forces.
