In partnership with the Police Training Authority Trust, we are delighted to invite you to the annual Newsam Memorial Lecture hosted by the College of Policing on the 6 March 2018.
Since 1965, the Newsam Lecture has been delivered 'upon a subject of public importance connected with the administration of justice or the discharge of police functions'. Past speakers include Lord Scarman; Sir Gus O'Donnell; Professor Tracey Mears, Professor of Law, Yale School of Law; and the current Prime Minister Theresa May. The inaugural lecture in 1965 was delivered by Lord Devlin and titled 'Police in a Changing Society', while last year's speaker was Dame Carol Black, Principal of Newnham College, Cambridge.
The event provides an opportunity for you to debate the big issues in policing and network with current and future leaders within policing.
This year Dr Hilary Cottam will provide a thought provoking contribution to the debate on the current policing model and its impact on increasing areas of demand such as vulnerability. Dr Cottam is an internationally acclaimed innovator and social entrepreneur. Her award winning work includes designing new approaches to ageing, employment and health services and she is a regular commentator in international and national media.
