What do we offer Policing Professionals?

Policing Professionals will have the opportunity to become members of the College of Policing in April/May 2015. To find out more about the benefits of becoming a member, visit the Membership page.

The College of Policing provides services to both organisations and individuals across policing.
We provide information, evidence, guidance and support to help you:

  • Understand how your force is performing against national standards
  • Maintain your continuous professional development and progress your career
  • Be an expert in your field
  • Know what you need to do to get promotion, or to move into a specialist role
  • Understand the powers you have 
  • Find career development, exchange and promotion opportunities in policing and law enforcement in the UK and internationally
  • Get involved in working at a national level, to help you learn from others and help you with your career development
  • Address any performance challenges with training, peer support, knowledge sharing and evaluation
  • Find conferences and seminars on contemporary policing and law enforcement issues
  • Research and evaluate 'good ideas' to see if they actually work
  • Find information about awards, bursaries and scholarships available for those working within policing and law enforcement
  • Network, share and collaborate with others across policing
  • Improve the performance of individuals and teams
  • Utilise and apply the professional skills and experience you bring from outside the police service for the great benefit of the public and policing
  • Be part of the voice of the service, and help shape it
  • Make strategic planning decisions e.g. whether to collaborate on the delivery of certain services
  • Keep up to date with developments at the Professional Committee and in Business Areas
  • Facilitate information sharing and learning in your force, drawing on APP and the Business Areas
  • Find appropriately qualified independent members to help select and appoint your Chief Officers
  • Get Executive Search support to identify and vet appropriate applicants for your vacant Chief Officer positions

The College also provides information, evidence, guidance and support to help you.
